BSGDS Conference 2008

The next BSGDS Conference will be on the lovely island of Jersey from 1st to 5th October 2008. At the AGM in Gozo the membership overwhelmingly decided to extend the dates to allow more time. The venue will be the recently refurbished Pomme d’Or Hotel in central St Helier. It is near the waterfront and is only a short walk from the heart of the main shopping district.

Our speaker will be Dr Derek Mahoney, a Specialist Orthodontist from Sydney. He has presented over 400 lectures in more than 30 countries. His subject will be the Orthodontic/Restorative Interface. He will discuss the indications for treatment and the use of simple fixed orthodontics to improve the dental aesthetic results as well as facial balance and harmony. Other topics will include the management of Hypodontia and the use of Mini–implants. Under the terms of Informed Consent general dental practitioners need to acquaint themselves with the latest Orthodontic techniques which now favour non–extraction. Across the globe Derek is considered a pioneer in raising awareness of the benefits of early interceptive orthodontic treatment and the importance of the airway.

It is likely that we may be able to have a drinks reception at Government House and visit the Royal Court which is not normally open to the public. There will be, as usual, an extensive social programme although the organisers have decided to allow some time for rest and relaxation during the four days. The details will not be finalised until after an exploratory visit in early April, but are likely to include the Jersey Pearl Factory shop and the Orchid Foundation amongst a number of other attractions.
